Ortsgruppe Portland Freunde des Neuen Deutschlands

Few people today are aware of the existence of the Nazi organization Freunde des Neuen Deutschlands or "Friends of the New Germany", in the United States in the 1930s. The Nazi Party's Ortsgruppe (regional organization) in Brooklyn, New York is probably the best known American Bund organization, but this rare songbook published by the Bund Freunde des Neuen Deutschland has a water adhesive (lickable) book plate of the the Portland Gruppe of the American Bund inside the front cover.

This very rare 4-1/4 x 5-3/8 inch, 75+ year old 12-page softcover songbook called Lieder des neuen Deutschland (Songs of the New Germany) was published by the American Bund and profits from its sale were used to feed the unemployed according to information on the front cover. On the back cover it says in German that the songs were "Collected and Published by the Bund Freunde des Neuen Deutschlands".

Songs included in this historic song book are the Horst Wessel Lied (the Nazi 'anthem' Die Fahne hoch!), SA marschiert!, das Hakenkreuz, Flamme empor, Maerkische Heide, Deutschland-Lied, Volk ans Gewehr! and others.

This very rare American Bund songbook with its striking eagle and swastika cover is undated. It is complete and in very nice used condition.
