||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
THE ORIGINAL CONTRACTS, BLUEPRINTS, ORDERS,
INVOICES AND RECEIPTS EXCHANGED BETWEEN PROFESSOR LEONHARD GALL OF ATELIER TROOST, THE NAZI PARTY AND DRÄGERWERK FOR THE VENTILATION SYSTEM IN THE BUNKERS BENEATH THE FÜHRERBAU AND BRAUNES HAUS IN MÜNCHEN |

Professor Leonhard Gall joined the bureau of architects of Paul Ludwig Troost in München (Munich) in 1908. When Professor Troost died in 1934 Gall took charge of the office and completed all the unfinished projects in close cooperation with Troost’s widow, Gerdy.
He completed the renovation of the Königsplatz, built of Hall of Honor and the architectural interior of the House of German Art. |

He built the addition to the Führerbau and completed construction of the twin of the building, the Verwaltungsbau or Administration Building of the NSDAP. He was nominated as a Reichskultursenator in 1935 and became co-editor of the Nazi art magazine Die Kunst im Dritten Reich and was a member of the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts. Albert Speer gave him responsibility for the interior layout of the New Reichschancellery in Berlin, he renovated the Berghof on the Obersalzberg and built München Town Hall. In 1938 he signed the plans to build the House of German Architecture and in 1938-39 he built the model for the 600 ft long Kanzleibau of the Braunes Haus which was to be built on the Gabelsbergerstraße in München. With architects Giesler, Kreis and Schultze-Naumburg he was awarded the title “Irreplaceable Architect”. He was as famous as an architect could get during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler.
The lot we offer here is connected directly to Professor Gall, to Atelier Troost and the Führerbau or Führer Office Building in München. It is all the material exchanged between the Nazi Party, the office of Professor Leonhard Gall at Atelier Troost, Maschinenfabrik Kiefer and the firm Drägerwerk Lübeck which was selected to install the air-conditioning and ventilation system in the bomb shelter bunkers beneath the Braunes Haus and Führerbau extending all the way under Gabelsbergerstraße.
Those papers include an overview of the project, memos from the account office Bauhütte at the Reichsschatzmeister or National Treasury of the Nazi Party, floor plans, requisitions, bills of material, bills of lading, change orders, invoices, machinery drawings, and the like involving everyone from Professor Gall to Minister of the Treasury F.X. Schwarz, Dr. Ruoff and even Feldpolizeiinspektor Haussner.
The file of correspondence from Professor Gall on this matter between the middle of 1943 and the end of 1944 totals over 18 letters. There are an additional 22 pieces of original paperwork, a huge 26-1/2 x 61 inch blueprint of gas-proof ventilating system to be installed under the Kanzleibau der NSDAP and a 16-1/2 x 23 inch blueprint of ventilators in the machine room of the Kanzleibau.
Altogether it is a fascinating look into the inner workings and inseparability of the Nazi Party and the German Government in the latter part of World War II. It is impossible to find material more directly connected to Hitler’s own pet construction projects and one of Nazi Germany’s largest, and certainly Nazi Germany’s most favored architectural firm, Atelier Troost.
Over 40 pieces of very, very rare original Third Reich material.
