Dr. Matthias Schmitz, German Library of Information New York document seizure
This lot consists of two original response letters from Dr. Matthias Schmitz, the Director of the German Library of Information, located in Room 1923 at 17 Battery Place in New York, next door to the German Consulate. The letters were sent to Mr. J. Eichhorn in Saginaw, Michigan who had requested books published by the German Library of Information, A Nation Builds - Contemporary German Architecture and German Forests Treasures of a Nation.

These letters, with facsimile signatures of Dr. Matthias Schmitz, were sent to let Mr. Eichhorn know the books were on their way to him in separate shipments.

We acquired them in the original envelope of the 17 December 1940 letter, carefully saved by Mr. Eichhorn.
