This is a very nice original example of Allied Intrigue in the Low Countries, Full Text of White Book No. 5 published by the German Foreign Office. This American edition was published by the German Library of Information in New York in 1940 and printed in the United States. According to text on the title page it contains “further documents concerning the Anglo-French policy of extending the war.”

This is an authorized translation of the German original of the Auswärtiges Amt or Foreign Office in Berlin and a faithful facsimile of documents which fell into the hands of German troops in their swift advance through Holland and Belgium, as well as material captured in Warsaw in 1939. The evidence presented in the White Book corroborates and supplements the allegations of the German Government and the General Staff of the secret plans of the western powers to extend the war to the smaller neutral countries, according to this book.

Established in May 1936, the German Library of Information in New York published a lot of English language promotional material about Nazi Germany, meant to familiarize the American public with the Third Reich, its leaders, its politics, culture, art, customs and history. It was funded by the Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda, the Nazi Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda under Dr. Joseph Goebbels in Berlin. Until September 1939, it was considered to be a part of the German Consulate's general office at 17 Battery Place in New York City. Allied Intrigue in the Low Countries was just such an English language publication, in this case to justify and explain to American citizens the reason for the German invasion of Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg and France in the spring of 1940.

In the summer of 1941, FDR charged that the German Consulate and the German Library of Information in New York had engaged in activities ''inimical to the welfare of this country'' and ordered them closed for the duration of the war.

This book contains fascinating diplomatic history and is in very nice, little used condition, with a tight spine and no unpleasant odor. Inside the front cover is the bookplate of the San Francisco College for Women and the name Hedley is written at the top of the front cover in red pencil.

This report furnishes documentary evidence translated into English of General Staff conversations between Britain and France on the one hand and Belgium and Holland on the other hand, and their secret plans for an Allied advance across Belgian, Dutch and Luxembourg territory into the German Ruhr district. There is also secret information about British military forces in Norway.

This 7 x 10 inch, 94-page softcover publication has text of documents regarding the Franco-Belgian and Franco-British military alliance prior to World War II as well as facsimiles of original documents. The 80+ year old book is in very good used condition and is complete with the the 23 x 19 inch fold out map inside the back cover.
