This is a very rare two-sided, two-language invitation card to a public meeting of the “Patriotic Fighting Organization of the German Americans” on Monday 14 March 1938 at 08:30 P.M. The meeting was held on the second floor at 436 Prospect Street and the speaker was Wilhelm Kunze, the Bundeswerbeleiter or National Publicity Director of the AV or Amerika-Deutscher Volksbund (also called the German-American Bund). Kunze was scheduled to speak in English and German, about the aims and purposes of the German American Bund according to information on this 90 x 140 mm invitation. All “Truth-Seeking Americans” were welcome and admission was free.

On 20 February 1939, Gerhard Wilhelm Kunze was one of the speakers at the “Pro-America Rally” of the German American Bund at Madison Square Garden in New York and later that year he would become the successor of Fritz Julius Kuhn, the Bundesführer or leader of the German American Bund (after Kuhn was indicted on embezzlement and tax evasion).

All AV or Bund material is rare, but any authentic Bund material related to the German-American Bund in Chicago (or Gau Mittelwest as it was officially known) is becoming extremely difficult to find. The Bund there was quite active over a period of years prior to World War II, but without explanation the internet has been virtually cleansed of references to it, pictures of their real estate and gatherings, etc.
