This is a very rare 100% original, unused antique postcard showing Haus Vaterland, the Bundesheim or ‘home base’ of the AV or Amerika-Deutscher Volksbund (also called the German-American Bund) located on 3853-57 North Western Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Note the American and Nazi swastika flag on the roof.

The 89 x 138 mm postcard was produced in Chicago by famous postcard printer Curt Teich & Co and has a green 1 Cent postage stamp featuring Ben Franklin affixed on the back.

All AV or Bund material is rare, but any authentic Bund material related to the German-American Bund in Chicago (or Gau Mittelwest as it was officially known) is becoming extremely difficult to find.

The Bund there was quite active over a period of years prior to World War II, but without explanation the internet has been virtually cleansed of references to it, pictures of their real estate and gatherings, etc.

Very rare, nice original condition exactly as shown.

The press text on the back of this 7-1/8 x 9 inch photo states that the Bund office and Teutonia Publishing Co. had been raided, and that business records had been taken to court. This court order had been issued after Chicago Bund Leader Dr. Otto Willumeit had appeared in court without any records for a hearing about charges that the Bund owed $380 in personal property taxes. Note the TAVERN sign next to the front door. It was the entrance to Haus Vaterland, a bar frequented by Bund members according to the press text.

This nearly 80 year old photo is in very nice used condition, exactly as shown.

This is an original glossy antique black & white ACME Newspictures press photo dated 19 December 1940 featuring Haus Vaterland, the Chicago headquarters of the AV or Amerika-Deutscher Volksbund (also called the German-American Bund) located on 3853-57 North Western Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The building was also the office of the Teutonia Publishing Company.
