Soldatenblätter für Feier und Freizeit, Jahrgang 1941

Each monthly magazine Soldatenblätter für Feier und Freizeit (Soldier Publication for Celebration and Leisure) contains stories written by and for members serving in the German Wehrmacht, and they were meant to be read and shared. These soldier magazines were published by the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht Abteilung Inland (OKW Domestic Department) for their Tornisterschrift or “Backpack” series.

This 2-¼ inch thick, 6-5/8 x 9-1/2 inch linen hardcover book contains Jahrgang 1941, all the issues published for the year 1941, which was the second year Soldatenblätter für Feier und Freizeit was published, and they were printed by Bibliographisches Institut in Leipzig for the OKW.

The heavy book contains both color and black & white illustrations, inspirational quotes by Adolf Hitler, Dietrich Eckart, Alfred Rosenberg and other well-known Germans, stories about frontline combat service and battle experiences, patriotic poems, sentimental stories written by soldiers about home, their mothers and children, stories about surprises received by Feldpost, etc.

In addition to the color and black & white war art created by and/or for soldiers, there are pictures of scenery in the homeland, a Willrich illustration of a paratrooper officer in color, cartoons, soldier amusements such as crossword puzzles, chess games, brain teasers, magic tricks, the music and lyrics of soldier songs, all together about 600 pages weighing 3 pounds.
