Every Landser in the German Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS wanted to take a leave in Paris, France during the years that Germany occupied the northern part of the country during World War II, and a great many leaves were granted in the “City of Lights”.

As in any army, many German soldiers were more interested in strip joints, cabarets, hookers and gambling that they were in art museums, theater and the opera. Paris had plenty of all of it to offer (see the wartime Paris guidebook link below), but was heavily oriented to the coarser, more basic interests of soldiers.

The item we offer here is an original 4 x 5-7/8 inch, two-sided Nazi ,,Ausweis für die Innenstadt Paris’’ or Pass to Visit Central Paris, issued to Wehrmacht Oberschirrmeister (Supply Sergeant) Bastian of Feldpost 01876 until 6 pm on 25 August 1940. The pass was issued by 30 Division Kommandant der Stadt Paris and Bastian stayed in room 612 at the Hotel des Deux Mondes (a very suggestive name - the Hotel of Two Worlds) from the 22nd onward. Like all similar passes this one was valid ONLY in combination with Bastian’s Soldbuch. The back of the Nazi Ausweis bears a stamp from Wehrmacht Vehicle Checkpoint D in Paris. Very good condition.
