This is an original 5-3/4 x 8-1/4 inch, 16-page Kraftfahrzeugbrief or Motor Vehicle Title Documentation booklet, serial number 323831. This is an example of a Kraftfahrzeugbrief II, especially for Krafträder or motorcycles, in this case a 1935 Dürkopp motorcycle with a two-stroke engine which left the Dürkoppwerke AG factory in Bielefeld with the serial number 1462299.
This Nazi era document contains all the pertinent information about the motorcycle such as who manufactured the frame, the two-stroke engine (Fichtel & Sachs AG in Schweinfurt), the weight, size of the tires, etc. The list price is shown as 350 RM 80 years ago.
From the entries in this Kraftfahrzeugbrief we can see the Dürkopp motorcycle left the factory on 23 September 1935, that it was purchased by a man named Fritz Schultz in Berlin who got license plate A174006 for it on 25 September 1935. The motorcycle changed ownership twice, once in October 1936 (a lady in Berlin purchased it) and again in November 1938 when a man named Karl Heller bought it.
There is nothing in the title document that says so, but we suspect that because of its size the German government probably appropriated this motorcycle for their use when the war began.
Page 5 shows that the motorcycle left the Expresswerke factory in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz (just southeast of Nürnberg - now a museum, shown right) on 3 October 1940.
On 22 May 1941 a man named Radke purchased a the motorcycle at a motorcycle and bicycle shop operated by Max Slamik in Munich. Radke paid 339.50 Reichsmarks for the Expresswerke Kleinfahrrad with engine number 721437 and frame number 591979.
Both the 4-¾ x 6-¾ inch, one-sided receipt for the purchase of the motorcycle and the Nazi era Kraftfahrzeugbrief are in very nice used condition.
This original 1935 Kraftfahrzeugbrief is in nice used condition. The Dürkopp advertising above is for reference only.
