Deutscher Sozialismus, Nazi swastika, Hakenkreuz
culture for all Germans, not just the privileged few
Nazi job creation
improved living conditions in Nazi Germany in 1938
Deutscher Sozialismus (German Socialism) is a very rare 1938 German propaganda piece produced in Nazi Germany in 1938 and distributed to urge Austrian citizens to vote for reunification with Adolf Hitler’s Germany in plebiscite held in April of that year. It was meant to show Austrians that they too could become a part of, and benefit from the economic progress taking place in Germany since the National Socialists or Nazis were elected to power.
When completely unfolded Deutscher Sozialismus is 5-¾ inches tall and 33 inches (!) long. Part of the text on the back panel shown above translates as “the first Arbeiter of the German Nation, whose personal care about the wellbeing and future of 75 million workers has improved all of the German Reich. Thank the Führer by all voting YES on 10 April!"

This 85+ year old illustrated Nazi propaganda publication was certainly effective as over 95% of eligible Austrians voted and 99% of those voted Ja! (Yes) for the Anschluss or reunification with Germany. Austria and its people became another small part of Hitler's Greater German Reich by their own choice and ancient, beautiful Vienna became the second largest city of Großdeutschland.

The illustration above highlights affordable travel and
paid vacation time for average Germans. Note the
KdF cruise ship in the background. The man behind
the ticket counter says "Vacation and Salary".
The striking 5-¾ x 8 inch, 10-panel Nazi printed piece creatively highlights what they felt the progress for average German citizens has been as a result of the first five years of National Socialist economic policies under the leadership of Adolf Hitler. Job creation, education and home ownership for laborers, improved living conditions for all families, workplace safety, medical care, paid vacation time, and culture for all Germans (and not just the privileged few) - increased opportunity and prosperity for all are singled out for praise.
affordable housing for average German workers
Over the years we have seen quite a few “Vote Yes for Hitler!” publications, but have never encountered this one. It is very rare, and this example of Deutscher Sozialismus was carefully saved away from light since 1938 and is in amazing condition. Bright colors, no writing, no pin holes, no tape, no odor!
