The 12th German Singing League Festival (12. Deutsches Sängerbundesfest) in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw in western Poland) in 1937 was a very major gathering, held from 28 July through 1 August and attracting participants from around the world (including an American delegation). It was hosted by Nazi Party Führer Adolf Hitler and State Minister of Propaganda Dr. Joseph Goebbels.
Deutsches Sängerbundesfest in Breslau
This 5-7/8 x 8-1/4 inch, 128 page soft cover book Festführer zum 12. Deutsches Sängerbundesfest Breslau 1937 was published by the Deutsche Sängerbund (German Choral Society) in cooperation with the Tourist Office of the City of Breslau (in Silesia) and printed by NS-Druckerei Breslau. It starts with a full-page portrait of Adolf Hitler, a Foreword by Reichsminister für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda Dr. Joseph Goebbels and miscellaneous introductions by the president of the Reichsmusikkammer, the mayor of Breslau and several other.
1937 Breslau Singing Festival program
This book was clearly printed for participants in the Deutsches Sängerbundesfest in Breslau and visitors to the city during the summer of 1937. There is a short history of the Singing Festival in the book, photos of attractions and around the historic city in Silesia, as well as the detailed program of festival events starting with the opening ceremony at 8 pm on 28 July 1937. Concerts took place at the Jahrhunderthalle (Centennial Hall now a UNESCO Heritage Site), the Hermann-Göring-Stadion (now called the Olympic Stadium), in the courtyard of the city castle and many small choirs performed on city squares and streets during the afternoon.
