The frontispiece is a very dramatic Horn-Stauffer painting of Adolf Hitler’s left profile followed by a foreword by Treasurer of the NSDAP, Reichsleiter Franz X. Schwarz, explaining the extremely historic nature of the National Socialist building projects in the Capital of the Nazi Movement, München or Munich. Page 17 has a fine full-page, full-color Einbeck portrait of the Treasurer of the NSDAP, F.X. Schwarz wearing his Goldenes Ehrenzeichen der NSDAP (Golden Party Badge) and the Blutorden (Nazi Blood Order).
The first chapter is about Palais Barlow, purchased by famous German industrialist Fritz Thyssen for the Nazi Party when their quarters on the Schellingstrasse 50 in Munich became too small. Architect Paul Ludwig Troost oversaw major renovations and worked with architectural drawings supplied by Adolf Hitler. By 1931, the Reichsleitung der NSDAP had completely moved in. The official address of the Braunes Haus (named after the Nazi Party uniform color) was Brienner Straße 45. Hitler referred to the Braunes Haus as the Parteiheim or “Home of the [Nazi] Party”.
This is a very rare Third Reich book called Das Braune Haus und die Verwaltungsgebäude der Reichsleitung der NSDAP or “The Brown House and the Administration Buildings of the Leadership of the Nazi Party” written by Dr. Adolf Dresler, head of the Nazi Party Press Office. The high-quality, glossy paper Third Edition hardcover photo book was published in 1939 by the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger of Munich.
Many other black & white photos show other parts of the Führerbau, the Verwaltungsbau, the Nazi Honor Temples, the RZM building on Tegenseerlandstrasse, the Hilfszug Bayern, and Das Reichsrevisionsamt. There is also a photo of the model of the projected new Nazi Party Chancellery which was expected to be built in the same area after the war was won.
The last part of the book has chapters about other important Nazi Party buildings in Munich. The Führerbau which housed Hitler’s Munich office, its twin building on the Königsplatz, the Verwaltungsbau (the administrative offices of the NSDAP), the Honor Temples built for the Nazi martyrs who died during the 1923 Putsch, the NS-Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) headquarters, and facilities of the Hilfszug Bayern.
There is a full-page, full-color picture of Hitler’s office in which he, Mussolini, Daladier and Chamberlain met in September 1938 to conclude that Germany should annex the Sudetenland (the Munich Agreement) and another full-page, full-color picture shows a beautifully appointed reception area in the Führerbau.
The bright red linen and gold hard cover of this rare 82 year old Nazi photo book shows light wear to the top of the spine and some loss to the gold blocking, but the internal pages are in excellent condition. Tight spine, no odor.
The 7-3/4 x 10-5/8 inch, 60-page red linen hardcover book has a special presentation page in the front. However, it was never given to anybody and the blank spaces have not been filled out, and Reichsschatzmeister Schwarz never signed it.
Right we show the handwritten notation on the front flyleaf by Mason Hammond, the GI who captured this example of Das Braune Haus und die Verwaltungsgebäude der Reichsleitung der NSDAP from the Verwaltungsbau in Munich on 8 July 1945.
