The Deutsche Informationsstelle or German Office of Information in Berlin was a Nazi propaganda institute specializing in translations of propaganda into various European languages. They published a series of extremely anti-British books in the same size and binding in 1940 called England ohne Maske (“England Unmasked” or “England without a Mask”). |

Englands Gewaltherrschaft in Irland (England’s Tyranny in Ireland) is book number 5 from this “England Unmasked” series, written by Werner Schaeffer and printed in 1940 in Berlin. In the introduction the reader is reminded that when the statesmen of Great Britain started their war against Germany, they stated that they wanted to “avoid violence to protect the freedom of nations”. These nice assurances needed to be investigated according to Werner Schaeffer, in light of the history in their own Reich.

This 5-5/8 x 8-1/8 inch, 48-page softcover Nazi Tatsachenbericht or factual report has information about the Irish people, their ancestry and proud culture and puts the spotlight on the brutal suppression of this population by the British, for centuries. The book has chapters called the Subjugation of the Irish People (1150-1700), the Valley of Obliteration (1700-1800), the Great Mass Murder (1800-1915) and the Struggle for Freedom between 1916 and 1939.
