SS BERGHAUS PLATTER & PHOTO ALBUM

SS Berghaus Bayrischzell
SS flag
A 17 INCH WHITE CHINA
SERVING PLATTER AND
PHOTO ALBUM FROM AN
SS MAN FROM THE
SS BERGHAUS AT
BAYRISCHZELL
Only a few people today are familiar with the SS mountain retreat at Bayrischzell, between the SS-Junkerschule at Bad Tölz and Hitler’s Berghof on the Obersalzberg outside Berchtesgaden. A superbly crafted alpine building of natural stone and hand finished wood, the SS Berghaus in Bayrischzell sat at 1195 meters (3920 ft) on the Wendelsteiner Alm beneath the mountain of the same name. There, a select group of SS men could retreat in peace to study, ski, bask in the sun and in general enjoy themselves.

The first item in this lot is a 7 x 10-1/2 inch sixteen page photo album with a 2 inch embossed circle and SS runes on the cover. Below the SS emboss are the words SS-Berghaus Bayrischzell.

SS-Berghaus Bayrischzell
The album contains 19 photographs and one printed postcard. The photographs are all printed from negatives on photographic paper and are not images mechanically reproduced. All of the images belong in this album - this is NOT a composite of miscellaneous photographs pasted into a SS album. We visted the area of Bayrischzell recently and acquired this album and the platter offered below JUST AS YOU SEE THEM.
Adolf Hitler Lied
The name of the SS man who assembled this photo album is unknown but he is in it in a portrait and in a snapshot showing him reading a book. There are also photos of the SS Berghaus Bayrischzell between the town and the Wendelstein mountain, several close-ups of the SS Berghaus with the black SS flag flying, a bird’s eye view of Bayrischzell including the SS Berghaus, a postcard of the Adolf Hitler song by Hermann Knoeckel which was to be sung to the tune of Die Wacht am Rhein.
SS Mann
SS uniform
There is also a view from the terrace of the SS Berghaus, the swimming pool at the SS Berghaus and the dining room and the fireplace room.
Of special interest is a series of five deckel edged snapshots showing groups of children who visited the area of the SS Berghaus Bayrischzell. In two of the five photos the children are accompanied by adult women and a man in a SS uniform. We do not know if this is the album owner or not.
Bauscher Weiden logo
The heavy 4 pound china meat serving platter measures about 11 -1/2 x 17 inches and is marked B 44 BAUSCHER WEIDEN 1/2 stark.
Bauscher Weiden
The well-known firm of Bauscher in Weiden, Germany was the manufacturer of this piece and it was probably made in 1944. At the top on the front side is the dining service logo of the SS Berghaus Bayrischzell printed in a medium grey-green color.
SS plate
The surface of the platter shows wear but there are no chips or cracks. Below the BAUSCHER WEIDEN logo on the back side there is a small chip in the inside rim (evident in our picture of the back).
Bayrischzell 2006
As mentioned above, few people are familiar with the SS Berghaus Bayrischzell in spite of the fact that it was very near the Nazi SS and Police ski school. Fewer people yet have ever seen anything connected to the SS-Berghaus. The examples of the SS photo album and Bauscher china platter that we offer here are extremely rare and in nice condition.
Above, a general view of the way
the Bayrischzell area looks today.
This SS-Berghaus Bayrischzell grouping is
