We are offering two different versions of the same rare Nazi era book on this USMBOOKS web page. The first is the earliest version Volk ans Gewehr! Das Buch vom neuen Deutschland assembled by Arnold Schley with a foreword by Bruno Loerzer, the president of the German Flying Sports Association. The First Edition of this book is a huge 368 page, 5 pound heavily illustrated linen hard cover with a competent Nazi text and a remarkable selection of over 200 extremely rare photographs from the early days of the Nazi Party.

The book consists of a series of comprehensive chapters about the German loss of World War I and the horror inflicted on Germany by the treaties of Versailles and St. Germain, the earliest days of the organization of the Nazi Party, defense without weapons, gruesome propaganda, the victory of the German people at the ballot box, the rise of National Socialism, German youth as the flagbearer of a new Reich, the wonder of Nazi Party organization, etc.

Some of the photographs show Adolf Hitler at early Nazi meetings, an unusual World War I German tank during the civil wars in Germany, a man cutting up airplane propellors with a bucksaw, the first Nazi swastika flag flying over the Brandenburg Gate, the Nazi reconstruction of the German Army and Air Force, the trial of the arsonist of the Reichstag fire, renowned artist Ernst Vollbehr painting the Reichs Party Days from life, Hitler setting the cornerstone for the House of German Art in Munich, German labor changing the face of the country, the NSKK motorizing the naztion, the Hitler Youth, etc., etc.

Editor Arnold Schley did something to offend someone at the highest levels of the new Nazi government when this book was published in the mid-1930s. One thing he did wrong was to begin the book with a frontispiece picture of a SS-Oberscharführer playing a bugle call, rather than a picture of Hitler. It is certainly one of the reasons he was replaced and one of the reasons that this edition of the book is very rare today. The subsequent version (offered below) had a frontispiece with a very striking head-on portrait of Hitler's face as the frontispiece.

This rare book is in excellent used condition with a previous owner's name and the date 1935 written on the front flyleaf in pencil.

This is the SECOND version of the rare Nazi book Volk ans Gewehr! Das Buch vom neuen Deutschland in which Hitler's portrait replaces the SS-Oberscharführer playing a bugle as the frontispiece, and the full-page picture of the SS-Oberscharführer went to the back. Assembled by Walter Gruber (who replaced Arnold Schley) but with a foreword by Bruno Loerzer, the president of the German Flying Sports Association, the Second Edition of this book is a huge 416 page, 5 pound heavily illustrated linen hard cover with an expanded Nazi text and a remarkable selection of over 200 extremely rare photographs with about 60% of them being different from the photos in the First Edition.

The book consists of a series of comprehensive chapters about German history, the World War and its horrible conclusion with the treaties of Versailles and St. Germain, the swastika and the steel helmet, revolt and revolution, the Wehrmacht in the Third Reich, new laws in the new Reich, Nazi economics, the Nazi worldview and cleaning of the culture, the German Labor Front, the new Reichsautobahn, the Nazi NSKK, German aviation, sport in Germany, the the Hitler Youth, political soldiers, Germany and the World, the Battle Continues, etc.
