Chapters cover the development of the science of heredity, human cells as building blocks of life, the meaning of heredity for individuals and the national community, abnormal genetic make-up (as a result of alcoholism and venereal disease, for example), heredity and preventive education, to name just a few. Thirty illustrations illuminate the complex subject matter. This book was also published as a school book under the title “What should the National Socialist know about Heredity?"

This is a Second Expanded edition of Was muß die deutsche Jugend von der Vererbung wissen? dated 1936. It was published by Verlag Moritz Diesterweg of Frankfurt am Main and is in very nice used condition. No writing, no odor, 88 years old!

The illustration at the top of this USMBOOKS web page shows the family tree of a genetically healthy German family. The image directly above shows the opposite, genetically impure people who had 16 children. The text in the upper left hand corner explains that if the grandparents had been sterilized, society would have been saved from the cost of caring for degenerate offspring that only created more problems.

Was muß die deutsche Jugend von der Vererbung wissen? translates as “What should the German Youth know about Heredity?. The book is subtitled “The Fundamentals of Heredity and their Significance for Humans, the Nation and State” and was written by Albert Friehe.

In the foreword, the author explains that after the National Socialist revolution a new awareness had formed which made citizens of Nazi Germany more aware of their heritage and their home country. Procreation of healthy, racially pure people was one of the important basic principles to the German future and the destiny of National Socialist Germany.

This 6-¼ x 9 inch, 80-page softcover book was published to help parents educate themselves on the subject of heredity and make them aware of their important role in preparing their children for the responsibility of creating a racially pure family, thereby fulfilling one of their duties, that of ensuring the continuation of the Hitler’s Third Reich.
