BEAUTIFULLY COLOR ILLUSTRATED WORLD WAR II NAZI ADVENT CALENDAR

This Nazi Advent Calendar is an outstanding example of the approach taken by the National Socialists in secularizing what had previously had been an item specifically intended for the period before Christmas, a religious holiday.
The 6-1/4 x 9 inch full-color softcover, 64 page Vorweihnachten (Pre-Christmas) book was published by the Nazi Party’s Reichsorganisationsleiter / Hauptschulungsamt in cooperation with the Hauptkulturamt in der Reichspropagandaleitung for distribution to German mothers.

Like any religious Advent Calendar, the book provides activities and lessons on a day-by-day basis from the 1st through the 24th of December, but without much of the religious orientation found in traditional Advent calendars. The activities ranged from complex explanations of ancient Germanic traditions to craft projects using things like pine cones and nut shells, to identifying animal tracks in the snow to picture puzzles. There are also illustrations of Wehrmacht soldiers, Russian tanks being blown up by German tanks and Allied ships being sunk by German submarines.
The concept of decorating a tree with candles and ornaments is intermingled with little German boys having snowball fights in their Schneebunker.
The importance of family, racial hygiene, ancestry and a soldierly life are very heavily stressed in this Third Reich publication.
This original 1942 Vorweihnachten calendar was published by the Central Publishing House of the NSDAP Franz-Eher in Munich. It has a hole at the top so it could be hung on a wall and pages could be turned thereby getting closer to Christmas every day (Noch 10 Tage bis Weihnachten).
This 80+ year old Nazi Advent Calendar was used as is obvious in our pictures. It originally had a cover page, but that was not saved with this day-by-day calendar which starts with page 1, the “23 Days until Christmas” page.
Left, is the "one day to Christmas" page with praying Wehrmacht soldiers around a Christmas tree. Note the World War II German victories in the wreath around them - Netherlands, Norway, the East, Crete, Afrika, France, etc.
There are beautifully rendered traditional designs of flowers and wildlife incorporating swastikas, runes and other Nazi symbols by different German artists (all named on the index page).
Poetry, songs and legends illustrate important lessons from the aryan past of the country’s history and nature.
These calendars were given considerable use in any home with children in the days leading up to Christmas during the Third Reich and thus they are very difficult to find, especially in this condition with all pre-Christmas pages present. It has no writing, and no odor. Condition exactly as shown.
This original 1942 Advent Calendar is offered for sale
