A 1939 CATALOG OF
THE PRODUCTS OF STAATLICHE PORZELLAN MANUFAKTUR MEISSEN |
||||||||||||||||||||
This is a good original example of the rare 1939 catalog of Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen (National Porcelain Company of Meissen). The beautiful 7-1/2 x 8-1/4 inch, heavily illustrated softcover color booklet contains 32 pages interleaved with see-through vellum overlay pages which provide article numbers, sizes and prices in Reichsmarks.
The drawings on the vellum overlay pages are simple outlines of the items shown in color below them (a few pages are printed in black & white).
A brief text explains the gift appeal and history of the hand-made works of art from Meissen, and explains the awards given them at the recent International Exhibition in Paris in 1937 (a Grand Prize). |

A 4-page ,,Erläuterungen’’ or Supplement enclosed in the catalog provides the names of the artists or designer of each piece illustrated. Items shown in the catalog range from occasional pieces of table porcelain; vase, bowl, figurine and serving pieces; lamp parts, tea sets, candelabra, desk sets and miniatures, to white, brown and hand painted animals and historic figures. |

The brown and white figurines by Oehme, Hösel, Münch-khe, Walther, Schulze, Scheurich and Esser were especially popular during the Third Reich and highly prized by Nazi personalities such as Adolf Hitler, Reinhard Heydrich, Hermann Göring and Heinrich Himmler.
This rare catalog provides not only a guide to Third Reich Meissen porcelain, but a rare glimpse into popular high-end household art of the period.
The cover is somewhat dirty and a few pages have light staining or minor damage but all-in-all the 65+ year old catalog is in good condition. |
