SECRET NAZI INDUSTRIAL DIRECTORIES 1944 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
THE COMPLETE
3-VOLUME SET (THOUSANDS OF PAGES) OF SECRET NAZI INDUSTRIAL DIRECTORIES FOR THE YEARS 1943 - 1944 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Similar in scope and utility to the THOMAS REGISTER in America ,,Industrie Compass’’ was published only once during World War II to provide German industry and authorities with a compact three-volume encyclopedia listing virtually every manufacturer, sales, service, or industrial enterprise in the eastern half of Großdeutschland (Greater Germany). Because of its value to buyers of all kinds of articles from military medals to refined sugar, and Wehrmacht uniforms to tanks, a great many firms in the other half of the Großdeutschland of Adolf Hitler advertised in it as well.
Because Germany was at war in June 1943 when this big 5-1/2 x 8-1/4 inch, thousands of page (the small book contains about 1100 pages and the set is almost 9 inches thick!) illustrated three-volume industry reference set was published, each volume has a serial number on the front cover and the title page, and the front cover and title page of each volume is labeled ,,GEHEIM!’’ (SECRET). The ,,GEHEIM!’’ label on each book explains that the volumes include material regarded as ,,Staatsgeheimnis’’ (Official State Secrets) under German law. The original price of each volume in 1943 was 40 Reichsmarks (a whopping $16.00!) at a time when a Nazi belt buckle sold retail for about 15 cents and a Hitler Youth dagger sold for $1.00!
The books in the ,,Industrie Compass’’ set are arranged as follows:
the largest book covers all of Deutsches Reich Ostmark (an annexed part of Germany Proper) and is arranged alphabetically by the name of the company or person, by place (town or city), by industry and by products produced or sold. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The second largest book covers all of Bohemia, Moravia (German protectorates) and Slovakia and is arranged alphabetically by the name of the company or person, by place (town or city), by industry and by products produced or sold. The third largest book covers Deutsches Reich Sudetenland (an annexed part of Germany Proper) and is arranged alphabetically by the name of the company or person, by place (town or city), by industry and by products produced or sold. |

Some of the industries covered by this set include construction materials, machine manufacturers, metal working firms, vehicle manufacturers, manufacturers of beverages, chemicals, food, wood and wood products, electronics/electric equipment, textiles, glass, paper and printing, clothing, leather and shoes, transportation and warehousing, import-export, mining, etc. Included of course, in these industries are the manufacturers of Nazi medals and orders, swords and daggers, uniforms, visor caps, belts and buckles, fieldgear, weapons, etc. - all sorts of collectible militaria. Each listing for any company gives full commercial information such as the size of the enterprise, what they make or sell, who owns the company, who runs it, names, address, phone, languages you may communicate with them in, etc., etc. If the US 8th Air Force or the Royal Air Force had owned a set of these books in the middle of 1943 the war would have been over by Christmas! |

The books also include full Nazi Party and German Government infrastructure information correct and complete down to an unbelievably basic level. The following is a good example: there is a listing for the Zweigstelle Ostmark der Fachgruppe Band- und Flechtartikel, Posamenten und Klöppelspitzenindustrie, which is an obscure Nazi organization for the Ribbon - Tress article, Lace, Braid and Bobbin Industry!
Large display advertisers in the ,,Industrie Compass’’ include such notable firms as Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken AG, Skodawerke, IG Farben, Dresdner Bank, Andreas Stihl chain saws (see ad above), Bally shoes, Friedrich Krupp, Reichswerke Aktiengesellschaft Alpine Montanbetriebe Hermann Göring (see ad above), AEG, Julius Meinl, Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik Arthur Krupp, Koh-i-noor, Commerzbank, Auergesellschaft, Berghütte, Ringhoffer-Tatra, Degussa, Alfred Kunz medals, orders and insignia (see ad above), City of Hamburg, Dynamit Nobel, Claas farm equipment, Mannismann, Semperit, Brown-Boveri, Wiener Lokomotivfabrik, Lauchhammer Mitteldeutsche Stahlwerke, Böhler Edelstähle, Schwechater Bier, Thomas Goldschmidt, etc.
For anyone seriously concerned with the industrial base of Nazi Germany, the war time ownership of formerly Jewish owned businesses, Third Reich advertising, war time manufacturing, etc., this set of books is fundamental and indispensable. They are rarely seen even one volume at a time.
This set is complete, right down to the built-in bookmarks and in very good condition.
