This is a very fine Second Edition of Das Politische Plakat (The Political Poster) published by the Zentralverlag der NSDAP, the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party in Munich in 1939. The book is subtitled “A Psychological Assessment” and it was intended for Nazi Party propaganda purposes ONLY. The book was not sold in book stores and the front cover clearly states that it is the “Property of the NSDAP”. The back of the title page also states the book is Eigentum der NSDAP.
Das Politische Plakat was written by Parteigenosse (Pg.) or [Nazi] Party Member Erwin Schockel and the book earned him his diploma at the Deutsche Hochschule für Politik in Berlin.

Das Politische Plakat is filled with striking art showing examples of German, American, British, Russian, Austrian and French propaganda posters. There are military themed posters and political ones for and against the Communist Party, the Nazi Party and the Socialist Party. There are many Nazi Party posters reproduced that were rendered by Mjölnir (Hans Schweitzer) and many of the KDP posters were designed by John Heartfield (Helmut Herzfeld). All of them are named and sourced in the Index in the back of the book.

This interesting, heavily color illustrated, high-quality red linen hardcover book provides valuable information about the nature and purpose of political posters supplemented with tips for future development of this important method of Nazi Party propaganda. According to the foreword by Hugo Fischer (Stabsleiter des Reichspropagandaleiters der NSDAP), Das Politische Plakat was to be the first of a series of these kind of Nazi books to be published for psychological propaganda purposes, but due to the outbreak of World War II, no further volumes were produced.
Chapters cover War Propaganda, Freikorps and Referendum - Election Posters, Development of Poster Propaganda between 1919 and 1933, Poster Propaganda by Various Political Parties and there is even a chapter called Good and Bad Posters!
Das Politische Plakat measures 6 x 8-½ inches and has 248 heavily illustrated pages. The red linen cover with silver blocking is in very fine condition but the spine is somewhat less minty. The binding is tight and the interior pages are in superb condition. It looks like the 83 year old Nazi book was never read and it has no odor.
Very rare, especially in this condition!
Left, a striking election poster that suggests that President Hindenburg's 18 million voters come from many different political groups and backgrounds, and that Hitler and the Nazi Party were able to interest 11 million voters by themselves (without a coalition).
The poster urges voters to support Adolf Hitler, "a Man against Party Cadavers and Interest Groups", and give their vote to the "Powerful Man".
This rare 1939 Nazi Party psychological assessment of poster propaganda
