This is a lot of TWO rare heavily illustrated original Third Reich photo magazines published at the time of the Anschluß in April and May 1938.
The second magazine in this lot is the rare May 1938 issue of Verkehrswirtschaftliche Rundschau which translates as “Commercial Transport Review” with a focus on the Reichsautobahn and the Reichsbahn or national railways. It was a 8 x 11-3/8 inch transport and trade magazine published at the beginning of each month by Österreichischer Wirtschaftsverlag Payer & Co. in Vienna.
The 48 heavily illustrated pages are filled with information about Adolf Hitler’s triumphant return to his homeland. It shows Hitler during stops in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck and Carinthia. Another extensive, article highlights railways in and around Berlin and the Deutsche Reichsbahn.
The second focus is on the modern Reichsautobahn network in Nazi Germany, which would soon be extended into Austria. In the back there is a crossword puzzle, new book reviews and advertising.

Arbeitertum (Labor World) is a heavily illustrated magazine of photos and articles, authorized by the Kraft durch Freude (KdF or Strength Through Joy) organization of Dr. Robert Ley’s Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF or German Labor Front). This is a 8-7/8 x 12 inch Special Election Issue dated 10 April 1938 with 24 heavily illustrated pages, published in Vienna. On the front cover and Index is says Unverkäuflich or Not For Sale.
The nearly 87 year old magazine is filled with many patriotic and economic reasons why Austrian citizens should vote YES for reunification of Austria with Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany.
Illustrated examples show the economic improvements in Nazi Germany since 1933, for average Germans, not just the top layer of society.
Sport, social programs and affordable travel organized by the KdF is also promoted. Plans for the enormous KdF seaside resort on the island of Rügen are shown as well the KdF cruise ship fleet in the harbor of Hamburg: the Wilhelm Gustloff, Sierra Cordoba, St. Louis, Monte Olivia, Der Deutsche and Oceana.

Both 1938 Nazi photo magazines are complete, in very good used condition and have no odor. The May 1938 magazine has the name and address of a previous owner stamped in purple ink on the front cover. Very rare and informative!
The magazine started publication in 1933 and this was the first issue since the reunification of Austria with Nazi Germany and has a far more National Socialist tone than pre-1938 editions. The last issue of Verkehrswirtschaftliche Rundschau was published only a few months later in December 1938.
