WEHRPASS OF A WEHRMACHT MAJOR
|
WEHRPAß OF A
PANZER JÄGER
OFFICER KILLED
IN RUSSIA
IN 1943
|
The fine looking soldier shown here in his 1940 Wehrpaß photo is Panzer Jäger Major Walter Josef Maria Urban of Wien (Vienna).
|
|
|
The major was born in 1910 and was in the army from 1930 onward as you can see in our scan of page 22 of his Wehrpaß. He rose through the ranks to command Panzer Jäger Abteilung 27 of the 13 Panzer Division. He served in Bohemia and Moravia and early in World War II he served in France, along the Swiss border, and returned to Germany with the 2nd Panzer Division.
In his Wehrpaß it is recorded that Urban attended many army training sessions and spoke French, English and Dutch.

|
He participated in the combat campaigns in the Ukraine from the Bug River to Rostow, just west of Stalingrad as shown on page 32 of his Wehrpaß. He died on 7 April 1943 on the southern front in Russia. |
|
|
|
|
He was awarded the October 1, 1938
Commemorative Medal with clasp, the
Rumanian Cavaler Militar, as well as the
First and Second Class Iron Crosses.
Included with this Wehrpaß is the
German Army letter of transmittal that
accompanied it when it was returned to
his father in Wien, after his death.
It is not a difficult matter to locate
and purchase the Wehrpaß of some
Nazi Landser who served on the east
front during World War II. To have
the chance to acquire the Wehrpaß of
a line officer of a Panzer Jäger
detachment is quite another thing.
This is a rare opportunity to buy an
excellent historic Wehrpaß that
belonged to a high-ranking Panzer
Jäger Officer, along with its original
letter of transmittal.

This Wehrpaß, or permanent record of military service is complete and in excellent condition. Above the eagle on the front cover is a handwritten notation in pencil that says simply gefallen or killed in action. |
|
|
This Wehrpaß would be the perfect accompaniment to any Panzer Jäger Majors uniform! |
