Those chambers included the Chamber of Visual Arts, the Motion Picture Chamber, the Literature Chamber, Press Chamber, Theater Chamber, Music Chamber and Radio Chamber. The Presidents of each chamber formed a National Advisory Committee which was supplemented by a Reich Culture Senate composed of "persons of outstanding cultural attainments". Along with Dr. Joseph Goebbels, the Reichsminister für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda (State Minister for National Community Clarification and Publicity), these people oversaw every aspect of everything that got into print or was performed in Nazi Germany.
This is the original 4-panel Third Reich Mitglieds Ausweis or membership identity document issued to musician Wilhelm Schmidt on 25 February 1937. Stapled to the brown cardstock Reichsmusikkammer Ausweis number 75618 are three Einlagen or additional pages with dues stamps for the years 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944 which all have colorful payment stamps on both sides.
Schmidt, born 19 December 1910 and a resident of Frankfurt am Main, was a member of the Reichsmusikerschaft (Professional Musicians Group) of the Reichsmusikkammer (State Music Chamber) of the RKK. He was an orchestra musician playing the flute, piccolo, piano and accordion.
The ID photo of Wilhelm Schmidt has its original rivets and is correctly over-stamped with the 35mm round blue Nazi eagle and swastika stamp of the Reichskulturkammer Reichsmusikkammer.
This 100% original 85+ year old RKK membership identity document is in nice used condition. Note that the red eagle and swastika stamp on the front panel was denazified, probably because Schmidt used the Ausweis after the end of the Third Reich. The swastika on the blue RKK stamp over Schmidt’s ID photo was not scratched off after the end of the war. Condition exactly as shown, no odor.
The Reichskulturkammer (RKK or State Chamber of Culture) was a very complex and important department of the German government. Without exception, anyone and everyone involved in "all forms of artistic creation or activity which are made public, appear in print or are transmitted through the air" were required to be members and carry an identification card from one of the chambers of the Reichskulturkammer.
