The Reichskulturkammer (RKK or State Chamber of Culture) was a very complex and important department of the German government. Without exception, anyone and everyone involved in "all forms of artistic creation or activity which are made public, appear in print or are transmitted through the air" were required to be members and carry an identification card from one of the chambers of the Reichskulturkammer.
Those chambers included the Chamber of Visual Arts, the Motion Picture Chamber, the Literature Chamber, Press Chamber, Theater Chamber, Music Chamber and Radio Chamber. The Presidents of each chamber formed a National Advisory Committee which was supplemented by a Reich Culture Senate composed of "persons of outstanding cultural attainments". Along with Dr. Joseph Goebbels, the Reichsminister für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda (State Minister for National Community Clarification and Publicity), these people oversaw every aspect of everything that got into print or was performed in Nazi Germany.
This is the original Third Reich Mitglieds Ausweis or membership identity document for movie actor Harry Webster, a member of the Fachschaft Film (Professional Group Movies) of the Reichsfilmkammer (State Movie Chamber) of the Reichskulturkammer.
Harry Webster was a stage name, his real name was Robert Weißkirchner. Both are listed in this Ausweis number 10178 and Webster / Weißkirchner added signatures for both names under his original ID photo. The ID photo has its original staples and is correctly over-stamped.
The 4-panel SA brown leinen identity document measures about 5-1/2 x 8 inches (folds to 4 x 5-1/2 inches), and was issued in Berlin on 5 April 1939. It is complete with the signatures of three Reichsfilmkammer officers (shown right).
Text on the back panel states that this ID had to be returned to the RKK when the owner ended membership in the State Movie Chamber.
This original 85+ year old oilcloth RKK membership identity document was damp at one time and as a result is somewhat ‘ribbed’. Condition exactly as shown, 100% original. No odor.
This orginal 1939 RKK membership ID of a movie actor is
