This is a rare original heavily illustrated 1940 publication by the Der Deutsche Automobil Club (DDAC or The German Automobile Club), produced especially for members of the DDAC. Mehr Kilometer im Tank (More Kilometers per Tank) contains 200 suggestions to save gasoline while operating a motorized vehicle.

The 5-7/8 x 8-1/8 inch, 72-page stiff-cover book shows a modern Tankstelle or gas station on the Reichsautobahn on the front cover. It was written by Wolf A. Doernhoeffer and has 38 clear, practical illustrations by an engineer named L. Pinder.

The 85+ year old book starts by pointing out that regular car service appointments will save money and will keep a car in better condition longer. There are chapters on the maintenance of the choke, miscellaneous valves, filters, spark plugs, the carburetor, etc.

Driving tips to save gas usage follow - how to properly start and shift a car, maintaining proper tire pressure, the correct way to brake, different ways to drive on country roads versus on the Reichsautobahn or in the mountains, and loading luggage in a way so the added weight is divided evenly throughout the car.
