Page 5 begins with the geography and populations of Africa, German territories in Africa and then it delves into the flora and fauna of Africa. There is a colorful star chart, a continental map and statistics related to the countries in Africa for any Landser who might get separated from his unit or who wanted to get along with the local populations.
Pages 25 to 128 are the calendar pages with spaces provided for notes on each day. This section contains a small number of pencil entries from which we know the owner became a POW of the British on Tuesday 11 November 1943. On 7 June 1943 POW Obergefreiter Walter Busch wrote "My first and last ? birthday as a POW??????"
The calendar section is followed by Italian Armed Forces uniform insignia of rank, information about Islam and Mohammedans, a German - Italian - French - English - Arabic - Haussa and Swahili dictionary, and general climate and health information for Africa.
Page 171 contains notes in pencil about the POW Information Bureau and Office of the Provost in Washington DC, so Nazi Afrikakorps POW Busch was clearly sent to an American POW camp somewhere in the USA.
This rare DAK book is in very good used condition. Spine is tight, back cover has light crack.
