As opera, operetta and musical theater programs from the Third Reich go, this is one of the most desirable of all. Wien (or Vienna) was the second largest city in all of Hitler's Greater Germany and world renowned for the quality and quantity of musical entertainment offered there. The Wiener Volksoper or Vienna Volks Opera was an institution of great standing and employed many of the finest musicians and actors to be found anywhere in Europe.
The Nazi eagle and swastika of the Reichskulturkammer (RKK or State Chamber of Culture) appeared on Wiener Volksoper programs only during the Nazi period in Vienna from 1938 to 1945. At the end of the war anything with the Nazi symbol on it connected to the Wiener Volksoper was destroyed. This rare program survived.
This rare 5-3/4 x 8-1/4 inch, 16 page program is for the Giacomo Puccini opera Die Bohème (La Bohème) which was first performed in Turin, Italy on 1 February 1896. It tells the story of the opera and the center spread identifies the cast of characters, and a second little slip of paper includes the name of the actor who played Rudolf and was left off the credits.
Exceptionally nice condition.
This rare Nazi Wiener Volksoper program for Die Bohème is **SOLD**.
