Unsere Wehrmacht im Protektorat is a very rare Nazi military photo magazine published in Prague (Prag in German) in cooperation with authorized Wehrmacht members working for the Reichsprotector of Bohemia and Moravia, in the former country of Czechoslovakia. This is issue 20 of the 9-5/8 x 12-5/8 inch magazine with 24 pages, dated 7 October 1941.
The photo magazine starts with a heavily illustrated article about the arrival in Prague of SS-Obergruppenführer and General der Polizei Reinhard Heydrich, the Acting Reichsprotektor in Böhmen und Mähren. Heydrich replaced ailing Reichsprotector Konstantin Hermann Karl Freiherr von Neurath, and the article includes a recap of Heydrich's life, career and his many promotions.
Photos show the welcoming ceremony in the Honor Court of Prague Castle by Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS and Ordnungspolizei honor guards and dignitaries such as SS-Gruppenführer Karl Hermann Frank, General der Infanterie Erich Friderici (the General in charge of the German Wehrmacht in the Protectorate), Generalleutnant Dr. Richard Speich, and Chef der Generalstab Oberst Longin.
Another heavily illustrated article is entitled "Swastika Flags over Pilsen", and yet another covers Waffen-SS recruits, including their training, education and oath ceremony in Prague on Hitler's birthday, 20 April 1941. The cover photo shows Wehrmacht Funker and the article about radio operators in this magazine has great photos of their equipment in the field.
Also covered are special performances of Berlin actors, singers (including a rare photo of Japanese dancer and choreographer Dr. Masami Kuni and Lale Andersen of Lili Marleen fame), and musicians in Prague on 9 and 10 September 1941 (OKW Truppenbetreuung, to boost the moral of German troops). Wehrmacht soldiers are shown interacting with citizens of Prague, and the peculiarities of Prague as observed by German soldiers
There is also a short story about East Front Experiences, important information about soldier pay and advertising by German firms like Ringhofer-Tatra as well as businesses and entertainment venues in Prague and Brno.
This is a very rare 76 year old Third Reich magazine with lots of Heydrich photos and information and great photo content. It is complete and in nice used condition, nothing missing, no offensive odor. We have never seen another example of Issue 20 of Unsere Wehrmacht im Protektorat.
