As most collectors and Third Reich historians are aware, National Socialists outdid themselves and all others in the creation of decorative material for Nazi Party offices, rallies, street gatherings, speakers platforms, railway stations and even homes. The pressed paper Festschmuck or festive decor offered here is absolutely authentic to the Third Reich period in Germany.
These articulated signs are approximately 34 inches long and consist of nine embossed metallic-finish letters about 4-1/2 inches tall spelling out the words SIEG HEIL! Each letter has an oak leaf motif at the top which is connected to a similar oak leaf motif on the next letter with a metal pin. The S and the ! each have strings attached for hanging the letters. When hung on a wall, the letters in the words assume an arc form. For those who do not know, the words SIEG HEIL! translate as “Hail Victory!” and were used every day by almost everyone in Germany during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler as a form of greeting or salutation similar in its ubiquity to the use of Aloha in Hawaii.
