HOTLE SACHER WIEN
The world famous Sacher Hotel in Vienna was founded in 1876 by Eduard Sacher whose father was confectioner Franz Sacher, already famous for his Sachertorte chocolate cake in the 1830s!

The Sacher Hotel survived World War I, World War II and the subsequent Allied occupation and is still in business today. Famous guests over the centuries include a great many high-ranking Nazis, Austro-Hungarian Kaiser Franz Joseph and his entourage, King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Rainier III of Monaco and Grace Kelly, President John F. Kennedy, Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Plácido Domingo, and many others.

The Sacher has been featured in several movies and TV series. Everybody loved Sacher's famous chocolate layer cake with a wonderful brushing of current jam between the cake and its rich chocolate icing!

This USMBOOKS web page contains original Third Reich menus from the world famous, luxurious Sacher Hotel in downtown Wien (Vienna, the second largest city in Adolf Hitler's Greater Germany) across the street from the equally famous Vienna Opera House. These type of 4-½ x 6-¼ inch prix fixe (fixed price) menus had the food selection of the daily menu for lunch (Mittags) and dinner (Abends), and could be found on every table in the hotel dining room. Guests could order this "fixed price" menu or order à la carte.

LEFT is the original Sacher Hotel menu for 13 July 1938. The lunch menu of 4 Reichsmarks (US$1.60) featured soup, spring chicken with mushroom rice and sweets. The evening meal of Reichsmarks 4.67 (US$ 1.87) consisted of soup, a poached egg Florentine style, mixed salad and dessert. One-sided, in very good condition.

RIGHT is the original Sacher Hotel menu for 15 August 1938. The lunch menu of 4 Reichsmarks (US$1.60) featured stuffed tomatoes, deer in cream sauce with pasta and ice cream. The evening meal of Reichsmarks 4.67 (US$ 1.87) consisted of celery soup, crab ragout with rice, veal with Washington salad and dessert. One-sided, in very good condition.

LEFT is the original Sacher Hotel dinner menu dated 23 July 1937. The dinner was grilled meat with Sauce Tartare, Cold Meat with sautéed potatoes and green salad. Cherry Strudel topped it all off!

The evening meal of Reichsmarks 4.67 (US$ 1.87) consisted of Indian Mulligatawny soup, veal brain on bread, pork cutlet with potatoes and dessert. One-sided, in very good condition.
