This is a very nice, complete example of the rare 3D photo book Die Soldaten des Führers im Felde - Der Feldzug in Polen 1939 (Adolf Hitler's Soldiers in the Field - the Campaign in Poland 1939). This 70-page, 8 x 11-1/2 inch hardcover book was published by Raumbild-Verlag Otto Schönstein in München (Munich) in 1940 for the Oberst des Generalstabes Hasso von Wedel, Abteilungschef im Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, and Reichsamtsleiter Henrich Hansen of the Reichspressestelle der NSDAP.

The subject of the photos in this Raumbildalbum Die Soldaten des Führers im Felde is the Blitzkrieg in Poland in 1939 and the division of that country between the invading German and Russian armies. There are lots of photos by the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht and Heinrich Hoffmann of German troops and equipment, many of captured Polish equipment and soldiers, and some of the Germans and Russians meeting in the field for the first time. Many of the pictures feature Hitler and his giant off-road Mercedes-Benz combat car. There are pictures of the big victory parade where Hitler and his generals reviewed the victorious German Wehrmacht.

The black & white pictures shown here are made directly from some of the stereo photo cards in the album. In addition there are eight heavy black pages interspersed in the 62-page text of the book featuring large size Heinrich Hoffmann photographic prints of Hitler, Göring, Keitel, Von Brauchitsch, and Raeder, plus three maps.

Raumbild Verlag (Three Dimensional Picture Publishers) books were unique in that they contained photographic stereo-view cards and a fold-up metal device with which the cards could be viewed. The special green covers of this album are about 1/2-inch thick and are die-cut with five cavities that hold the 100 special 3-D stereo photographs (real photographs from negatives - NOT halftone prints) and the metal viewer with glass lenses that is set up to view the photographs.

The 100 stereo photos each measure 2-3/8 x 5 inches and have a full description of the subject printed on the back in German. When seen in the viewer each picture is incredibly three-dimensional, almost as if the scene was being viewed in real life. It is almost like watching the Wehrmacht victory parade in Warsaw on 5 October 1939 as a member of the crowd!

This complete 78 year old example of Die Soldaten des Führers im Felde - Der Feldzug in Polen 1939 is in very nice original condition, complete with all 100 stereo photos and it even has the original Nazi era Gebrauchsanweisung or instructions on how to use the metal viewing glasses!
