With the Anschluss or reunification of Austria with Hitler's Germany in the spring of 1938, Austrians automatically were considered citizens of Nazi Germany. Anyone who wished could apply for a Heimatschein or formal certificate.
This is the Heimatschein of Josef Pichler issued at the mayor's office of Eichgraben in Gau Niederdonau, the small community where he lived on 15 May 1939. The 8-¼ x 12-¾ inch certificate shows Pichler was born on 28 December 1870 in the Vienna suburb of Purkersdorf, that he was married and that he was a retired Reichsbahn of railway employee.
Absolutely original to the Third Reich period, in very good used condition, exactly as shown.
