,,DIE KRIEGSMARINE
(THE NAVY) MAGAZINE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF JANUARY 1944 |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By the middle of January 1944 when this magazine was published, the Kriegsmarine or Navy of Nazi Germany had already been reduced to a fraction of its former size and power. That may be why this rare 9-1/2 x 13 inch, 16 page, heavily illustrated issue of ,,Die Kriegsmarine has a likeness of a Marinehelferin or Female Navy Replacement on the front cover and an article on page 9 about women replacing men in non-combat naval tasks. Other articles and photo features concern the battleship ,,Scharnhorst, destroyers and U-Boats in the Bay of Biscaye, the Russian Baltic Navy, sailing ships, and an article from a British publication about the deadly menace of the U-Boot. Published by the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine in Berlin. |
