This is a very nice example of the 7-1/2 x 10-1/2 inch, 128 page scholarly German examination of the Nazi mountain troop battles for control of the high mountains in the northern and central Caucasus, from Krasnodar to Tiflis. The undated book Kampf um den Kaukasus (Battle for the Caucasus) contains an excellent text by the Commanding General of the Hochkaukasusfront (and Knights Cross recipient), General der Gebirgstruppen Rudolf Konrad.
The German text is the first 64 pages of the softcover book and it contains many excellent maps. The last 64 pages of the book consists of spectacular photographs on high quality paper by E. W. Rümmler, a Wehrmacht war correspondent with the mountain troops.

The photo material is seldom seen anywhere else and provides an outstanding look at the uniforms, equipment, weapons and vehicles of the Nazi Mountains Troops in the Caucasus. They used a wide variety of mountain guns, mortars, machine guns, pack mules and horses, halftracks, Kettenkrad, trucks and even horse-drawn wagons and carts. Plenty of pictures of high-ranking officers as well as ordinary Landsers.
