The Kaiserhof Hotel occupied the southeast corner of Wilhelmsplatz facing the Hitler Balcony that architect Albert Speer had added to the German Reichschancellery in 1934. The Kaiserhof was a very fine, well-known hotel and it was as close to the power elite in Germany as anyone could get. Next door were the ministries and many foreign embassies. Everybody who was anybody in Third Reich Berlin ate at the Kaiserhof.
The item we offer here is of unquestionable historic importance. It is a single silver fish knife manufactured by the firm of Arthur Krupp of Berndorf, Germany (now in Austria) for the Kaiserhof Hotel in 1940. The marks on the back of the knife are KAISERHOF BERLIN, 1940, ART. KRUPP BERNDORF, the Krupp logo, the number 90 in a circle and the number 30 in a box. The silverware pattern is simple, elegant and understated. The knife is perfectly balanced.
Hitler, von Ribbentrop, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Goebbels and architect Albert Speer could all have used this knife! They all dined often at the Kaiserhof Hotel.
The knife is in very good original used condition. |
