AN ORIGINAL 1942 LETTER FROM
THE HOTEL KAISERHOF IN BERLIN TO REICHSLEITER BALDUR VON SCHIRACH IN WIEN |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Hotel Kaiserhof was the first luxury hotel in Berlin. It opened in 1875 and at the time it was the only hotel to offer rooms, all 260 of them, with electricity, bathroom and telephone. The owners of the hotel were sympathizers with Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, with the result that the upper floors of the hotel were used as NSDAP headquarters prior to the 1932 and 1933 German elections. Hitler himself had a permanent room there prior to becoming Chancellor and during renovations of the Chancellors apartments in the old Reichschancellery. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| When Hermann Göring married second wife Emmy in April 1935, the wedding reception was held at the Kaiserhof Hotel. Nazi Propaganda Minister Dr. Joseph Goebbels used the name of the hotel in the title of his book Vom Kaiserhof zur Reichskanzlei (the Reichschancellery was just across the street from the hotel, on Wilhelmstrasse).
Offered for sale is a splendid original A4 size letter dated 16 July 1942, a confirmation of Reichsleiter Baldur von Schirachs recent reservation request for his usual room 149/151 at the Kaiserhof Hotel in Berlin, Germany. |
