One of the rarest of the series of Heinrich Hoffmann photo books produced during the Third Reich of German Chancellor Adolf Hitler, is this 40-page, 7-3/4 x 10-1/2 inch, hardcover volume is called Das Antlitz des Führers(The Faces of the Führer).

Inside the front cover is the 6-1/2 x 8-11/16 inch commemorative bookplate in matching paper as shown at the right. The inscription translates as follows:

"The SS Corps Area Alpenland remembers its fallen comrades and gives you this book as a token of your relationship to them, with best wishes for Julfest and the New Year. Salzburg, in December 1941. (signature in ink) SS-Brigadeführer and Generalmajor of Police".

We have not done the research to determine who the general was that inscribed this book, but it would be a very simple matter to find out.

With 16 spectacular full-page photos, the book presents a wide variety of portraits of Germany’s 23rd Chancellor, Adolf Hitler from 1919 through 1939.

Following a foreword by Hitler Youth Leader Baldur von Schirach are 16 of the most dramatic Hitler portraits that Heinrich Hoffmann could select, each identified by the year it was taken and with a caption that explains the circumstances of the portrait.

This is a good example of the book with hand laid, hardcover paper binding and brown lettering on the front cover.
