This is a very nice complete example of the 1940 Yearbook of the Reichsfrauenführung or the Leadership of the National Socialist Women's League. Deutsches Frauenschaffen im Kriege (German Women’s Activities in Wartime) was published at the direction of Erika Fillies-Kirmsse, head of the NSDAP Press and Propaganda Department of the Nationalsozialistische-Frauenschaft.

The book explains every aspect of the NS-Frauenschaft and activities of women in the Third Reich during 1940, and a large 6-5/8 x 12-3/4 inch fold-out organization chart provides detailed information on every subdivision of the eleven Hauptabteilungen (Main Departments) of the NSF.

This 1940 example of Deutsches Frauenschaffen im Kriege contains photos of pretty young women in every sort of occupation from cooking for and feeding Wehrmacht soldiers in Poland, working in war industries filling in for men, as train personnel, distributing Feldpost, bathing babies, tending to wounded war veterans, even sewing Bunkerschuhe or “bunker shoes”.

The 1940 Yearbook of the Reichsfrauenführung also contains an eight-page chapter with the title “Where does a woman turn to when she needs advice or help?” Subjects covered are legal and economic help, family support, NSV, as well as how to obtain information about family members serving in the military. This section ends with the address for NS-Frauenschaft offices in every Gau of Nazi Germany.

The hard-to-find 6-5/8 x 7-3/8 inch, heavily illustrated 128 page softcover Jahrbuch der Reichsfrauenführung 1940 starts with a quotation from Adolf Hitler’s speech to Parliament on 1 September 1939, voicing his expectations that German women will have to show exemplary iron discipline in their role in the war. A chapter by Reichsfrauenführerin Gertrud Scholtz-Klink follows in which she urges all women to follow the Führer, and participate in the German war economy.

The last 26 pages consists of the Anzeigeteil containing advertising for products that appeal to women such as electric kitchen appliances, cosmetics, soaps, clothing and ladies underwear, foodstuffs, fabric, but also general things such as savings accounts, life insurance, furniture, and new books (even one by SS war correspondent Kurt Eggers, shown above).

Published by Westfalen Verlag in Dortmund, this hard to find 81 year old Nazi book, Deutsches Frauenschaffen im Kriege is complete with the original Third Reich dust jacket which has a few pieces of transparent tape on the inside of the top and bottom of the spine. Complete and in good used condition, no odor.
