The two postcards offered for sale on this USM web page were published by the Comité International de Dachau in Brussels, probably in the late Forties or early Fifties for the museum at the camp in the small town of Dachau, north of München (Munich), Germany. The images used to produce these black & white postcards were taken by the SS.
Established in 1933, Dachau Concentration Camp was the mother camp of all subsequent Nazi Konzentrationslager. For additional information on KL Dachau, click HERE.
The unused postcard shown left measures 104 x 146 mm. It shows a SS concentration camp guard in a Dachau concentration camp watchtower manning a machine gun. In the background the castle and skyline of the picturesque Bavarian village of Dachau near Munich is visible.
This postcard was purchased at the former KZ Dachau. The back has a red stamp 1-1/4 inch in diameter with the words Krematorium DACAHU and the number 1426 above a triangle. On the back it also says in five languages "Original photo of Dachau taken by SS in 1933".
