Pius XII, Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli
Roman Catholic Church is no friend of democracy and that it openly collaborated with and abetted Fascism
Vatican Policy in the Second World War by L.H. Lehmann
1939 World Wide Photos Inc. press photo
Papal Nuncio to Germany

We are not now and never have been the least bit anti-Catholic, anti-Jewish or against any religion. We offer this material for its historical value only.

The lot consists of a genuine 1939 press photo of Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli leaving the 1928 New Year's reception of President Paul von Hindenburg when he was Papal Nuncio to Germany. The 7 x 9-1/8 inch photo was released to the press by World Wide Photos Inc. on 2 March 1939 when Cardinal Pacelli was elected pope. Pius XII reigned until his death in 1958. Praised by some for saving many Jews and criticized by others for not intervening enough on the behalf of Jews during World War II, Pope Pius XII was a controversial figure.
The second item of this lot is the 5-½ x 8-½ inch, 52 publication Vatican Policy in the Second World War by L.H. Lehmann published by Agora Publishing in New York in 1946. Leo Herbert Lehmann was an Irish Roman Catholic priest who for several years acted as negotiator in legal matters at the Vatican. Following his work at the Vatican, he went to the United States where he served as a priest in Florida. Later in life he converted to Protestantism and served as the editor of The Converted Catholic Magazine. He authored magazine articles, books and pamphlets, all very critical of the programs and activities of the Roman Catholic Church.

The introduction of this very anti-Catholic publication starts by explaining that the "Roman Catholic Church is no friend of democracy and that it openly collaborated with and abetted Fascism." Chapters in this book are titled Trends prior to World War I, Trends since World War I, the Roman Catholic Church and World War II (Vatican-Axis collaboration in Spain, Ethiopia, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Austria, France, Japan and in the USA) and Whitewashing the Vatican.
In the Conclusions section Lehmann quotes conservative and devout Catholic Richard N. Coudenhove-Kalergi who stated that "Catholics are by disposition Fascists, undemocratic and their leadership is a hierarchy perpetuated by an undemocratic minority." In the back there is a page with recommended books and other books published by Agora Publishing in New York.

Historical material in very good condition, exactly as shown.
