THE AN ABSOLUTELY AUTHENTIC ENAMEL
,,FIRMENPLAKETTE OR NAME PLATE BEARING THE LOGO OF INFAMOUS THIRD REICH CONCENTRATION CAMP OVEN MANUFACTURER, J.A. TOPF & SONS OF ERFURT |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The company Topf & Söhne of Erfurt, Germany was the largest and by far the most widely recognized manufacturer of the ,,Muffeln or cremation ovens used in Nazi Konzentrationslager or concentration camps during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler to dispose of the corpses of those who died or were executed during their incarceration. You may still see original Topf ovens today in the memorial museums of former concentration camps like Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Buchenwald and Dachau. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Today, you may read all about the Topf family company and its decision to manufacture and install the ovens used in concentration camps, on the internet. By doing a Google search for Topf Auschwitz you will come up with dozens of pages of websites explaining the history of Topf and showing photographs of their factory, products, sales literature, the Topf logo, and even photographs of enameled name plates exactly like this one.
If you enter this web address: http://www.verzet.org/content/view/570/29/1/7 (this is page 8 of 10 pages on that website) there is a picture of this precise ,,Firmenplakette or name plate over a Dutch language caption which translates into English as Factory logo from the ovens. |

The Topf & Soehne oven name plate we offer here is absolutely guaranteed to be a minimum of 62 years old and is not a reproduction of any kind. We bought it recently in Bavaria in Germany from a woman who did not know Topf from Kopf.
The Topf name plate is about 9-7/8 x 12 -1/2 inches in size and has a raised center. The black Topf logo on a white background is inside two black borders above the words J.A. Topf & Soehne ERFURT. (in German a with an o with an umlaut, as in Söhne can also be correctly spelled Soehne as on this sign). There are mounting holes in all four corners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The sign is made of heavy formed steel covered in hard-fired vitreous enamel (not paint). Whoever removed this plaque after World War II chipped the enamel around both bottom mounting holes, but not badly. The back side of the name plate is smeared with baked enamel in the front side colors as is perfectly typical of all genuine enamel signs of the Third Reich period. A very historical piece of extremely rare authentic concentration camp material in very good used condition. |
