German Tiger tanks in service of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS of Adolf Hitler were among the most awesome and genuinely feared weapons on the battle fronts of Western Europe and the Soviet Union. Heavy, wide tracked, well-armored and remarkably gunned, they were also well-commanded and well-manned.

At the beginning of their training in the Panzer (armored) forces, officers and men were required to study the Tigerfibel that we offer here. Over the years there have been attempts by some to reproduce the book, but the attempts have ended in abridged, poor quality editions. The book we offer here is not only complete, it is an original edition of 1 August 1943 and it is in wonderful condition. It was published at the direction of General Guderian, General Inspector of Panzer Troops.

The 5-1/8 x 7 inch, 92 page book begins by explaining to the reader what a powerful, big, heavy machine they will be traveling in and what an outstanding record it has attained in knocking out enemy tanks on the Eastern Front. It puts its message across to the reader in part by comparing a Nazi Tiger tank with a beautiful woman.
The first section talks about liquids such as fuel, oil and water that are consumed by the Tiger. Air filters, oil filters and carburation are explained, as is the suspension and track laying equipment. |

,,Der Tigerfibel then covers the concept of the relationship of the crewmans Tiger tank to other vehicles and targets on the battlefield. It is obvious from the length of this section that overcoming obstacles and eliminating the enemy was the central thesis of Panzer training. The last section is dedicated to instilling a sense of how the tank is commanded in the crew members.
In a pocket in the back of ,,Der Tigerfibel there are eight folded technical sheets. They are: |

a small 10-3/4 x 11-1/2 inch two-sided sheet identifying enemy tanks and armored cars dated 1 February 1943; a larger 11-1/2 x 23 inch two-sided sheet identifying enemy tanks; a 11-1/2 x 12-1/2 inch two-sided sheet explaining the effectiveness of the Tigers 88 mm gun by showing the vulnerable spots in the front side and back armor of ten enemy tanks including the Russian T34 and the American M4 Sherman tank.

The remaining five 6-1/2 x 9 inch, three-color, two-sided sheets give range information for knocking out the KW1, Churchill, Lee, T34 and Sherman tanks.
If you have an interest in Nazi tanks, Tiger tanks, World War 2 tanks or tanks in general, this is a remarkable opportunity to own what may be the very best example of a Tigerfibel in existence. |
