This is a rare opportunity to own an actual piece of the SS-Junkerschule (SS Leadership College) that was located in the small town of Bad Tölz.
At the time of the Third Reich (1933 - 1945) Bad Tölz was a small German market town with a population of around 8000 in Oberbayern (Upper Bavaria), south of München (Munich). At an elevation of 700 meters (about 2300 feet) and with the resulting pure air, it had long been considered a perfect, healthy holiday destination at the foot of the Alps. The town became renowned for the SS-Junkerschule or SS Leadership College located in a fortress like set of buildings on a hill overlooking Bad Tölz.
The SS-Junkerschule became the central attraction in Bad Tölz in the 1930s, drawing students who later formed the very cores of Hitlers Allgemeine SS and the Waffen-SS. All of the leaders of the SS from Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler to Reinhard Heydrich and Sepp Dietrich, either attended, taught at or visited the SS-Junkerschule at one time or another.
The simple iron doorknob attached to this oak plaque is one of those used in the Officers living quarters of the SS-Junkerschule in Bad Tölz, and was removed during work that took place in September 1996.
The close-up of the plaque on the right shows the laser engraving, a badge of the 100th anniversary of the St. Leonhard pilgrimage to Bad Tölz (1936), a metal SS eagle, a metal SS skull and a brief explanation about the doorknob. |
