Der Sieg im Norden (Victory in the North), is subtitled "An Account of the Battles of the German National Army in Denmark and Norway". It is a fine hardcover 1943 Nazi photo book by Friedrich Heiss with military and political commentary by Oberst Rudolf Ritter von Xylander and Dr. Günther Lohse.
This was considered a clear justification for the actions of the Wehrmacht in Denmark and Norway starting in the spring of 1940. The text and maps outline the situation with British Forces in Scandinavia, as well as details about the strength of the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe.
The introduction points out British and French disrespect for the neutrality of the countries of Denmark and Norway, immediately to the north of Nazi German borders (see map above).
Der Sieg im Norden starts with an explanation of the political situation in Scandinavia in April 1940.
Photos show the first moments of the attack, British destroyers on fire in the sea, Gebirgsjaeger and Kriegsmarine sailors on their way to Norway on a Nazi transport ship, the Luftwaffe in action, motorized Wehrmacht troops in Copenhagen, Nazi soldiers on horseback on their way to Oslo, Nazi Army bicycles and tanks in the harbor of Oslo, the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, Wehrmacht troops marching through Kopenhagen, motorized troops and ski troops, the birthday parade for General von Falkenhorst in Oslo, General der Gebirgstruppen Dietl (the Victor of Narvik"), destroyed Norwegian and English military equipment, British and Norwegian POWs, Pioniere building emergency bridges, Iron Cross ceremonies in the field, etc., etc.
The photos in this 8-½ x 9-¼ inch, 172-page hardcover book are excellent and many of them are not found in other Third Reich photo books. They are gritty and show German military equipment up-close, as well as the logistical challenges of moving equipment and men in snowy conditions and rough terrain.
Der Sieg im Norden also has statistics about destroyed British and French naval ships as well as German losses of the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe.
Published by Volk und Reich Verlag in Prague in 1943, this 78 year old example of Der Sieg im Norden is complete and in very nice, little-used condition with some damage to the spine. No odor.
