This is a Nazi publication about Niederdonau, Ahnengau des Führers, the Nazi district in Greater Germany where Adolf Hitler was born. The 5-5/8 x 8-1/8 inch, 48-page softcover book is Heft 95 (book number 95) in the Heimat und Volk series published by the Gaupresseamt Niederdonau der NSDAP, the Nazi Press Office of Gau Niederdonau.

Sinnbilder im Waldviertel (Symbols in the Forrested Quarter) was written by Hans Heinz Dum and was published in 1943. The competent text is accompanied by illustrations by M. Niederführ, showing historic runic symbols found in various places in the Waldviertel. The book covers the history of each of the symbols and where in the Waldviertel they were found. There are old runic symbols on ceramic pieces, carved from wood, woven, examples from the Stone Age, on forged iron candle holders, etc.

The book also explains that these historic symbols recently came to the foreground again after the rise of National Socialism, and Sinnbilder im Waldviertel contains several contrasting Nazi symbols as well, on NSDAP, NS-Frauenschaft and Hitler Youth badges.
