This is an unusual opportunity to acquire an authentic Third Reich example of the very rare 9-1/2 x 12-3/4 inch heavily illustrated, 24 page soft cover book Festschrift anläßlich der Übergabe der Reichskanzlei an den Führer 9. Januar 1939 or Celebratory Book for the Occasion of the Handing Over of the Reichschancellery to the Führer on 9 January 1939.
The front cover of the book depicts an average German workman (such as those who built the Reichschancellery in record time) carrying a fancy pillow with a huge symbolic Nazi key lying in the center. The end of the key has a large swastika in a circle.
Inside the book there are poems of thanks and tribute to both Nazi Führer Adolf Hitler and the gorgeous building that he had Albert Speer design and build in central Berlin in 1938.
There are 17 full-page illustrations in the book depicting various stages in the construction from start to finish, with humerous captions written phonetically in the dialect of Berlin construction workers.
The text for the book was produced under the leadership of Benno Scheffler of the Gaupropagandaamt Berlin while the illustrations were developed under Ernst Kroll of the Deutsches Propaganda-Atelier. A rare piece of Reichschancellery history in very good used condition. Absolutely original to the Third Reich period, from the collection of Reichschancellery authors Ray & Josephine Cowdery.
