Des Führers Jugendstätten (Places From The Führer's Youth) is a rare and beautifully illustrated hardcover book dedicated to the German Youth by author Helene Krauß. She also illustrated the 5 x 7 inch, 102 page book with pen and ink drawings and watercolor paintings. It was published by Verlag Karl Kühne of Wien-Leipzig in 1939.
The foreword by the author describes this book well - it was not meant to be a literary achievement but a heartfelt publication for those who shared her feelings about the man Adolf Hitler. She describes her plan to travel to all the places of Hitler's youth in an effort to find out what shaped him in his early years. She did this during the Verbotzeit, the time before the Anschluß when it was still illegal in Austria to support the Nazi Party. By the time she had finished her book, the reunification of Austria with Nazi Germany had taken place.
She traveled to Braunau where Hitler was born, Lambach, Fischlham, Leonding, Linz, Spital and Steyr where Hitler lived, and talked to people who knew Hitler and his parents when he was growing up. Des Führers Jugendstätten is the result of her efforts. The pen & ink and watercolor illustrations by author Helene Krauß are a beautiful aspect of this rare Nazi book.
