RARE 1936 NAZI BLUT UND BODEN BOOK WITH SS GENERAL WALTHER DARRÉ SIGNATURE

In his foreword, Reichsbauernführer (and SS-Obergruppenführer!) Darré says that Neuadel aus Blut und Boden is a continuation of the race theories in his pervious book Das Bauerntum als Lebensquell der Nordischen Rasse (Agricultural Culture as the Source of Life of the Nordic Race).

He explains that he uses the word Adel (Nobility or Aristocracy) in connection with farmers in its Germanic sense of the word, that the only difference between farmers and land owners is the grade of agricultural work being performed and that each could not exist without the other. The harmony between landowner and peasant is stressed.

Attached to the front flyleaf is a piece of paper dated 9 September 1945 with the original signature of Reichsminister und Reichsbauernführer R. Walther Darré. In his own handwriting Darré confirms it is his signature. Another item that came with this book when the GI brought it home and we acquired it, is a 4-5/8 x 6-5/8 inch glossy print of a Heinrich Hoffmann picture of Walther Darré shaking hands with Adolf Hitler (from the 1936 book Adolf Hitler) at a Harvest festival, according to information printed on the back.

Also included is an original photographic print of Darré’s Nuremberg Trial photo measuring 1-7/8 x 3-1/4 inches, as well as an old photocopy of an English language newspaper article published after his death at age 58 as a result of an operation on his liver. A period 2-1/2 x 7-3/8 inch heavy paper bookmark with advertising for the book Volk und Rasse is also included with this book.

As is obvious in the picture near the top of this USMBOOKS web page, the original 88 year old dust jacket on this book has tape repairs and while it is complete and fully readable, is not in great condition. The book itself however, is in wonderful, very nice condition and has a tight spine and no odor. Along with the book and the ephemera contained in it we will also send the buyer of this book a newly-printed replica of the colorful dust jacket reproduced from an original in our archive.

This is a fine 1936 linen hardcover edition of Neuadel aus Blut und Boden by R. Walther Darré with its original dust jacket AND a paper insert with the signature of the Argentinian born Nazi Minister of Food and Agriculture and Reichsbauernführer Darré. Darré was a noted Nazi race theorist and Cabinet Minister who with Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler founded the Rasse- und Siedlungshauptamt der SS (RuSHA or SS Race and Settlement Main Office), the organization responsible for safeguarding the racial 'purity' of the SS and Nazi Germany.

The title of this book translates as “New Nobility Based on Blood and Soil” referring to the importance of farmers, and the high esteem in which the farm community was held by Adolf Hitler and the Nationalist Socialists. This book makes the point that selective breeding, a well-planned eugenics program, was needed to secure the future of Nazi Germany.

SS-Befehl A Nr. 65, the SS Verlobungs- und Heiratsbefehl (the SS Engagement and Marriage Order) issued by Reichsführer-SS Himmler is printed in its entirety on page 228 (left). It outlines the preservation of the German race through careful selection of a mate, thereby ensuring the inheritance of pure blood. The Rasseamt der SS and the Sippenbuch der SS are well quoted.

This SS Verlobungs- und Heiratsbefehl is followed by the important Reichserbhofgesetz, the Nazi Hereditary Farm Law of 29 September 1933. Its aim was to "preserve the farming community as the blood-source of the German people” and Reichsbauernführer R. Walther Darré, the author of this book (and crucial Nazi race theorist), worked tirelessly to promote this law which also banned Jews from owning land for agricultural purposes.

Neuadel aus Blut und Boden has 248 pages plus 16 pages of advertising by the publisher J.F. Lehmanns Verlag of Munich. Most of the books advertised in the back are about preserving the German race and are written by Dr. Hans Gürtner, Alfred Rosenberg, Walther Darré, Professor Rudin, and other race theorists. Lehmanns Verlag also offered films and slide series on genetics, eugenics, and race.

This 6-¼ x 9 inch linen hardcover example of Neuadel aus Blut und Boden has embossed lettering on the front cover and spine. Inside the front cover and on the title page is a round eagle and swastika library stamp from the Amtsgericht Bad Schwalbach, the District Court in that spa town near Wiesbaden.

Neuadel aus Blut und Boden has chapters about the history of German agriculture and nobility through the ages, the possibilities of regenerating German nobility during the Third Reich, fundamental questions about German agriculture, preserving German landownership and nobility, designing corporate agricultural organizations, fundamental ideas about (human) breeding responsibilities and the Marriage Act, general guidelines for the education of the young nobility and their role in the German Nation.

These three items come with the book.
