Deutschlands U-Boote, der Schrecken Englands (Germany’s Submarines - The Terror of England) by Otto Schütte is an excellent 1940 photo book about Nazi submarines.
After a 13-page introduction by engineer and Korvettenkapitän Kurt Kiel, this 80-page book has glossy pages filled with over 120 photos of Nazi submarines at sea and docked in U-Boot pens, U-Boot crews inside their tight quarters and on deck, submarine crews wearing life vests and testing their weapons during naval exercises, Adolf Hitler inspecting a U-Boot, and even Admiral Erich Raeder and Karl Dönitz (commander of the German submarine fleet) introducing Hitler to the submarine crew that sunk the British cruiser the HMS Courageous, after their return to shore.
Kriegsmarine U-Boot
There are also several rare photos of the “Victor of Scapa Flow”, U-Boot commander Kapitän Günther Prien, on his submarine as well as during an official visit to Berlin. After his famous victory north of Scotland on 14 October 1939, he was flown to Berlin-Tempelhof on Hitler’s airplane and received a hero’s welcome and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (right).
