Nationalsozialismus in Staat, Gemeinschaft und Wirtschaft (National Socialism in the Government, Community and the Economy) is dedicated to “Our Führer on 30 January 1934, the first anniversary of the National Socialist government, with eternal loyalty and devoted allegiance”. The 7+ pound, 11 x 13-¼ inch, 460-page very heavily illustrated hardcover book focusses heavily on the economy of Nazi Germany, and it as the driving force of the welfare of every German citizen.
This high-quality Third Reich book was not produced for general consumption - it was much too expensive for that - but rather, it was produced to impress the industrial movers and shakers in the new Germany with what was to come with Hermann Göring’s first Vierjahresplan or Four Year Plan for the German economy. It was a theme that definitely came true over the next few years as the German economy was brought back from post World War I ruin to the strongest economy in Europe by far, and one of the strongest economies on earth.
The introduction by Prussian Prime Minister Hermann Göring (below) is about the principles of National Socialism in the state, community and economy, and the task and responsibility of all German citizens to work towards improving German destiny. According to Göring, the first year of the Nazi government has shown many improvements for every citizen of Germany (not just a few) and that economic growth for many years to come will be possible under the steady “brilliant leadership” of Adolf Hitler.
The text of a speech Adolf Hitler made to Parliament is included with subjects covered such as the unjust Treaty of Versailles, the National Socialist view on race and labor, ‘cleaning up’ public life (and thereby improving the view the world has of Germany), the SA, international relationships with Austria and France, and more. This is followed by the year 1933 in review, a month-by-month list of National Socialist achievements.
This is followed by an explanation of the important Reichsstatthaltergesetz (Reich Governors Law, making each Reichsstatthalter the representative of the Nazi government tasked with the execution of Hitler's political and economic ideas), the Reichserbhofrecht (National Estate Law), as well as an anti-Jewish article by Staatssekretär Dipl.-Ing. Gottfried Feder about the importance of placing the national economy of Germany over the world economy.
This is followed by an overview of the economic achievements in the first year of the Nazi government (referred to as “the First Hitler Year”), the new laws improving the social system and working conditions for average German workers, the construction of the Reichsautobahn (creation of thousands of jobs), the fundamental importance of agriculture in Germany, as well as modernizing the German aviation, banking and communication business.
The second half of this huge, very high-quality 7+ pound book highlights German industries; their output and the (mostly privately, not state owned) companies that help them thrive. The featured industries were all big supporters of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party such as Philipp Holzmann, Hoesch-Köln Neuessen AG, Deutsche Reichsbahn, Hochtief AG, Krupp AG, AEG, Knorr-Bremse AG, Opel, Allianz, Albert & Cie, Villeroy & Boch, Osram-Lampe, Henkel, Henschel, Telefunken, Dunlop, Luftschiffbau Zeppelin, Maybach-Motorenbau, IG Farbenindustrie (the producers of Zyklon B poison gas), MAN, Dresdner Bank, and many more.
Nationalsozialismus in Staat, Gemeinschaft und Wirtschaft has 460 high-quality glossy art paper pages with full-page photos of Adolf Hitler, Hermann Göring, Dr. Joseph Goebbels, as well as photos of different types of German farms, modern industry, German farmers, miners and construction workers. The section with information about German companies has photos of their production facilities, offices, employees and products.
This 7+ pound, 11 x 13-¼ inch, 460-page hardcover book was published by National-Zeitungs-Verlag of Essen late in 1934 or in early 1935 (it is undated). It has a striking deeply embossed cover depicting a hand in the Nazi salute position with a swastika sword and mining hammers in a yellow/gold color. This 85+ year old example of Nationalsozialismus in Staat, Gemeinschaft und Wirtschaft is in very nice little-used condition has no odor.
